Turf Equipment Technician 


Facility Description: Private 18 holes.
Experience Desired: At least 3 years experience as golf course mechanic or related field .
Duties Description: Golf Club of New England is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic to oversee and maintain a broad spectrum of turf care equipment. The equipment manager/mechanic will be responsible for a fleet of John Deere greens, tees, fairway and rough mowers. John Deere tractors, gators and aerifiers. Club Car carts (member carts and utility carts), as well as many other small pieces of Stihl and Honda equipment. The equipment tech must possess good organizational and record keeping skills. Must be able to perform moderate physical labor. Must be able to communicate with superintendent and assistant superintendent on a daily basis. Must be responsible for ordering parts and keeping track of inventory. Proficiency in Express Dual 3000 and Angle Master 3000 grinding is preferred. Has an understanding of reel grinding and mower setup and the effect on course conditions. Has the ability to establish preventative maintenance programs. Shop organization skills. Understanding of golf course equipment electronics and hydraulics. Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize. All other job related skills such as welding, fabricating, electrical will be taken into consideration Compensation / Benefits: DOE. -Must have valid drivers license and transportation to work
-Golf course equipment repair knowledge is necessary
-Knowledge of small engines, diesel engines, electronics, hydraulics and hydraulic motors is necessary
-Must be highly motivated, goal driven and a self-starter
-Ability to use tools properly and safely
-Must be organized and detail oriented

-Must be able to order the parts needed to complete a job

9 hole, semi private golf club with a primary season of July and August.

Course founded in 1897 and redesigned by Willie Park Jr. in 1921.

Full time salaried position, April 1 – October 30 Salary range – $25 – 30K (commensurate with experience).

Superintendent reports to Greens Chairman / Greens Committee and Club Manager.

Free housing available in clubhouse, 1 bedroom apt.

Budget for course maintenance - $30,000 plus salaries

Requires Maine pesticide license.

Responsibilities include:

Maintenance of 9-hole golf course, small driving range, practice green, with respect for historic design and layout of the 1921-designed Willie Park Jr. course. Managing seasonal budget for course maintenance and Hiring and supervising 2 full-time and 1 part-time employees. Use of all fertilizers and pesticides as needed, including reporting to Town of Castine and State of Maine, licensed by State of Maine. Accurate record keeping of maintenance equipment and equipment shed. Maintenance of irrigation system and water pump (well).

Bi-weekly meetings with golf pro/club manager and greens committee of Board of Directors

Castine Golf Club is a fully certified participant in Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses
