OVERVIEW
Responsible for the overall operation of golf course maintenance. These responsibilities include turf grass maintenance, property management, irrigation maintenance, pesticide applications and recording, personnel management, and member relations. The golf course superintendent works to create an environment where staff is enthusiastic, with open communication and respect for themselves, members, guests, and the property. The candidate must be able to work within the Audubon Sanctuary Program guidelines.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
- Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds
- Administers and enforces cart rules, regulations, and policies for staff
- Is able to work independently and be a self-starting problem solver
- Is able to work closely with pro shop personnel for play schedule and coordination of special projects
EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of maintenance and best practices for turf maintenance
- Knowledge of equipment and the operation of tools used in golf course maintenance and construction
- Knowledge of safe use, the mixing of chemical applications for commercial use, within Audubon Sanctuary Program limitations
- Ability to anticipate equipment and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repairs
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years’ experience as a golf course superintendent or as a first assistant
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Possess a current pesticide applicator’s license or able to be certified within three months of hire

Norway CC is a public 9 hole golf course that is currently seeking a dedicated individual eager to learn and improve their skills in golf course turf management. This position works closely with the acting Superintendent and Pro Shop Manager to ensure the best playing conditions and experience is provided to members and guests.
Education/Experience

Essential Functions/Responsibilities (not limited to the following)
- Basic irrigation repair and maintenance
- Irrigation programming for nighttime watering. The ultimate goal is to utilize the irrigation system to effectively water the course at night. Thus, eliminating the manpower required for manual watering during the day. At times, spot watering may be required during the day
- Basic equipment repair and maintenance
- Mowing- push and riding
- Weed whacking and leaf blowing
- Chemical application with equipment once certification has been obtained
- The Assistant Superintendent Trainee may serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.
- Assists in capital improvements to the golf course grounds
- Participate in required duties for the opening of the course in the Spring as well as closing in the Fall

- Interpersonal skill to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, officials, employees, members and the general public.
- Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations, including use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Essential Responsibilities
- Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the facility grounds.
- Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas.
- Provides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting and pleasant atmosphere.
- Manages an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells and other water source usage.
- Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
- Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
- Oversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
- Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.
- Develops annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Maintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
- Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
- Coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.
