Position/Title:  Superintendent of the Course


Facility Description:  Province Lake Golf was originally built in 1918 as a 9-hole course overlooking the shores of Province Lake. In 1988, the back nine was designed by Brian Silva and construction was completed that year. The course straddles the border of Maine and New Hampshire.   The 18 hole, par 71 course is serviced by a Toro automatic irrigation system and straddles the Maine and New Hampshire border.

Experience Desired:  Minimum 4 years of hands on experience working on a golf course, whether working as a groundskeeper, assistant Superintendent or Superintendent, with the knowledge and capability and desire to continuing learning.

Duties Description:  We are looking for a “hands on” Superintendent, experienced and able/willing to manage and support all aspects of the golf course maintenance, including the scheduling of crew, training of staff, scheduling of pesticide applications, record keeping, etc. We prefer that candidates have experience with Toro irrigation systems.  The most important qualities for a successful candidate are a strong work ethic, commitment to the future of the course, integrity, and a positive and healthy attitude.

Special Skills:  The candidate should have or be willing to obtain the necessary Maine and New Hampshire pesticide licenses.

Compensation:  Salary to be commensurate with experience. There will be paid vacation and we will consider on-site housing as part of the compensation package for the right candidate. Compensation will also include dues to relevant professional associations, and golfing privileges.   Year round or seasonal employment will be considered.

Castine Golf Club, located in a beautiful small town on the coast of Maine, is looking to hire an enthusiastic, innovative and hard-working Head Superintendent to oversee and manage its challenging nine-hole, semi-private golf facility for the 2019 season.  The ideal candidate will work with the Greens Chair and Head Golf Professional/Club Manager to continue building on the success and momentum of recent years.  The Superintendent is responsible for providing optimized playing conditions for this golfing community of all ages.  This role provides an excellent opportunity to build professional credentials and have a unique summer experience on the coast of Maine.

The Castine Golf Club was founded in 1897.  In 1921, it was redesigned by two-time British Open champion Willie Park Jr. - who also designed Maidstone (NY) and Sunningdale (UK). Castine Golf Club has a national membership base and a vibrant golf program with many tournaments and social events during the season and is a fully certified participant in Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.

DUTIES (include but are not limited to):

The ideal candidate will maintain the nine-hole course, practice area, practice green, as well as the grounds around the Club House, tennis courts and tennis and golf pro shops.  Candidate will oversee all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel.  The candidate will have knowledge of golf course turf grass maintenance practices including cultural practices, greens management, fertilizer and pesticide applications and irrigation system operation and repair.  The candidate will secure and maintain proper licensing with the state of Maine and also provide proper reporting and documentation to both the state of Maine and the town of Castine.  The candidate will have broad knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work.  He or she will also anticipate and manage the procurement of supplies, parts and equipment as needed.  The candidate will also have the ability to effectively schedule job assignments and supervise staff to achieve effective utilization of resources. The successful candidate will hire and supervise 2 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee. The Superintendent will monitor and record all details related to maintenance of grounds equipment and storage shed. The Superintendent will manage all personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments.  He/she will be supported by and must attend bi-weekly meetings with Head Golf Professional/Club Manager and Greens Chair.

START DATE: Typically the full time salaried position runs from April 1st to October 30th, but we have the ability to be flexible with the right candidate.

A beautiful 9 Hole Robert Trent Jones Sr. design course located on the banks of the Saco River, about 10 miles south of Portland. New owners have invested considerable capital into the course and grounds over the last two years and continue to expand the property.  In July we opened the River Tap & Grill which seats 110 inside and 50+ on a great deck overlooking the river and first tee. We have about 70 members and people are saying the course is in the best shape they have seen in 20 years. This is a year-round, full time position at Southern Maines Finest Nine!

Responsible for operation of the golf course and grounds maintenance. The responsibilities include: turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance of regulatory issues. The Golf Course Superintendent works to create an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communications and respect for themselves, members, guests and owner.

Duties Description: Golf Club of New England is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic to oversee and maintain a broad spectrum of turf care equipment. The equipment manager/mechanic will be responsible for a fleet of John Deere greens, tees, fairway and rough mowers. John Deere tractors, gators and aerifiers. Club Car carts (member carts and utility carts), as well as many other small pieces of Stihl and Honda equipment. The equipment tech must possess good organizational and record keeping skills.
